Brummett, Pate, Named Collegiate

By Aaron Smith
BATON ROUGE, La.
– Wichita State junior Sydney
Brummett and Midland senior Nick Pate were an-
nounced as the Most Valuable Players for the 2016-
2017 collegiate bowling season by the National Colle-
giate Bowling Coaches Association (NCBCA).
Brummett and Pate were recognized for their per-
formances Wednesday at the Night of Champions
banquet. The banquet brings together the 32 teams
that advanced to the Intercollegiate Team Champion-
ships, which kicks off Thursday at the Raising Cane’s
River Center.
Brummett and Pate also earned the same honor
Wednesday from the International Bowling Media As-
sociation (IBMA).
Brummett, a three-time and current Junior Team
USA member, collected two individual wins as she
helped the Shockers to five Tier 1 titles during the
2016-2017 campaign. Brummett, also a member of
Team USA 2017, led the nation in average (208.96)
and average differential (35.02) during Tier 1 competi-
tion.
Brummett was joined by teammates Laura Plazas
and Hollyann Johansen in earning first-team All-
America honors. Emmanuel’s Destiny Harper and Ur-
bana’s Maude Demers also earned spots on the first
team.
Pate, the most valuable player at the 2015 ITC and a
Team USA member in 2017, took home individual
wins in three consecutive events during his senior
year. He added three additional top-five finishes while
averaging 217.5 in Tier 1 competition.
Pate was joined by 2014-2015 NCBCA Most Valu-
able Player Michael Tang of San Jose State, Wiscon-
sin-Whitewater’s Zach Woelfel, McKendree’s Greg
Young and Arizona State’s Chase Nadeau as first-
team All-America members.
Abigail Ragsdale of St. Francis-Illinois and Andrew
Letscher of Pikeville were recognized as the NCBCA
Rookies of the Year. Wichita State’s Mark Lewis was
selected as the women’s coach of the year for the
fourth time, and Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Shawn
Wochner earned his second Kerm Helmer Coach of

Jennifer Loredo & Megan Carpenter
JENNIFER LOREDO
from Fresno is one of two recipi-
ents for this year’s award. Jennifer is a 3.5 GPA fresh-
man attending Clovis West High School. Her aspirations
are to open her own business so a college education in
business administration and management is a must. She
is looking into Wichita State, Webber International,
McKendree University, Stephen F. Austin, Vanderbilt
University, and Nebraska State University – all bowling
colleges of course!
Julia has many youth bowling titles such as 2014 Diddy
Watts Youth State Singles Challenge; 2016 Pepsi District
#4 Finals; 2016 Pepsi State Finals U15 Girls and most
recently the California State Singles Women’s 176 &
above division (this was an adult event!).
She hopes to one day be a part of the PWBA and an
inspiration to the future of our sport. Her goals are to win
a US Open title, a PWBA title and be on Team USA.
Jennifer is also a Level I Certified coach.
MEGAN CARPENTER
hails from San Diego and is cur-
rently a 3.6 GPA senior attending Torrey Pines High
School. Megan started bowling when she was 5 years
old and has bowled in 9 local city tournaments, 7 Pepsi
Championships, held office of President and Vice Presi-
dent in her youth league and has attended the State
Convention as delegate once. She has been bowling for
12 years, has a 196 average and a high scratch series of
735.
Megan’s goal is to attend a university studying biology
and bowl on a collegiate team. She wants to continue
and get her Masters and teaching credential so that she
can teach high school Biology.
Megan says “No matter where I go to college and settle
down to teach, I will continue the same activities I do
now, including league bowling, serving on the board of
the local USBC Association, and giving back to the youth
through education and coaching.”
We have two great winners this year. We wish them
both the best in their continued education and bowling
achievements
