The weekend kicked off with our
Crazy 8s Contest
with
Ron McGinnis
once
again taking it down and earning his way in to the Main Event. New Member,
Al
Sutrick
finished in second earning a partial paid entry as well.
Crazy 8s
is a great
way to "Win Your Way In" for only five bucks! Give it a try next week at Sunset!
There was a lot of action this past weekend as 3 bowlers found their way above
the
1000
mark in their quest to become the next Tour Champ! Congrats to Greg
Mamac, Al Garcia, and Brian Blackman for their great qualifying scores. A very nice
attainable cut score of
912
was had on Sunday with 13 Members making the "Cash
List" to share in the
$4,032.00
paid out. 8 bowlers from Saturday and 5 bowlers
from Sunday fought their way into the 8-man bracket.
Greg Mamac impressively climbed to the
top of the Leaderboard on Saturday with
an
1109
series in the final squad of the
day! Coming in 2nd was
Brian Black-
man
with a very nice
1031
set of his
own. Both Greg and Brian earned first
round byes for Sunday! AfterSun-
day qualifying was completed, two Mon-
ster rounds were held to determine the
Elite 8. Advancing were
Romel Aguilos,
Mo Clark, Troy Rawling, Trent Dungan,
Luis Napoles, Brian Blackman, Guy
Hirsimaki and Alex Watanabe.
This
group was comprised of 4 Members with
one or more titles each and 4 Members in
search of their first title. The eliminated
finalists:
Greg Mamac, Gene Villano,
Corben Etteldorf, Michael Cox, and Al
Garcia
settled for a 9th-13th place finish
good for a
$95.00
payday. After the Elite 8
Round, Members
Romel Aguilos, Brian
Blackman, Alex Watanabe and Mo
Clark
were eliminated and re-
ceived
$125.00 each.
The Final Four
Troy Rawling, Luis Napoles, Guy Hirsi-
maki, and Trent Dungan
Making his second appearance this year
in a Quarterly Championship,
Troy Rawl-
ing
was not even aware of the score in
the final frames of his semi-final match, as
he did not know he had it wrapped up
going into the 10th frame against
Luis
Napoles.
With his win, Troy advanced to the final round. In the other semi-final
match
Guy Hirsimaki
and
Trent Dungan
faced off against each other. Trent found
his "zone" early in the match and while Guy shot a very impressive
243
it was not
enough to overcome Trent's
272
game. Both Guy and Luis each took
home
$254.00!
In the championship match,
Trent Dungan
went up against
Troy Rawling.
Troy
was in a quest to be Las Vegas' first 5 Time Champion while Trent was looking for
his first Championship. With only 3 pins separating the pair in handicap, Trent had
a slight advantage. Troy put the pressure on early and never looked back. Trent, it
seemed ran out of gas, having bowling 4 qualifying squads (16 games), two Monster
rounds (2 games) and 2 match play games before heading into his final
match. Troy would finish with a 280 game becoming the 2nd Quarter Champion of
2017 and 9-Tap Tour LV's first 5 Time Champion! Trent took home a nice check for
$541.00
and Troy added
$920.00
to his career earnings. Congratulations to both
Troy and Trent for a weekend of great bowling and achievements!
Troy Rawling
of Las Vegas joined the tour back in 2016. He has been bowling for
6 years with 2017 being his best year ever in tournament competition. Using
his
Pitch Black
drilled up by
Kyle at K & K Pro Shop at Sam's Town,
Troy got his
fifth 9-Tap Tour Title and another Championship shirt! Watching and rooting him on
was his wife, Benji, who incidentally will be getting all of the winnings! Troy ex-
pressed his appreciation for the 9-Tap Tour crew and for the great competition the
Tour provides the bowlers! Well congrats Troy, you have proven yourself to be a
fine champion with all of your titles coming in 5 different centers across Las Vegas!
