COLEMAN’S FUEL,
NOT PROPANE
Oct.9, 2016
McHenry Bowl hosted the 2nd Annual
Modesto USBC Queens Tournament
this past weekend October 8
th
and 9
th
.
There were 28 bowlers participating for the 1
st
place prize
of $2,000. The 1
st
place prize was guaranteed due to local
community sponsorships. Each participant bowled 6
games of qualifying on Saturday and the cut was to the top
8 women. It took a score of 1324 (220.6 avg.) to make the
cut to the two game match play double elimination finals on
Sunday. High qualifying score was Amanda Fry from Ante-
lope 1457 (242.8 avg.).
Jasmine Coleman, from Manteca, emerged as the cham-
pion of the Winner’s bracket winning three consecutive
matches and in the process averaging 255.6 for the six
games.
The title match was a different story. Pam Schaal, from
Modesto, won the loser’s bracket and was ready for the
task of defeating Jasmine twice to claim the crown. In a
nail biter she won the first match 472-466. Now, Pam
would have to defeat Jasmine a second time as this was
Jasmine’s first loss of the day and to be eliminated from
the tournament you have to be defeated twice. Well Jas-
mine still had something left in the tank and it was not just
propane fuel.
In her second match she turned up the heat and de-
feated Pam 480 to 452 to claim the tiara and be declared
the Queen of this year’s tournament and receiving the 1
st
place prize of$2,000. For runner up Pam received $1,101
for her efforts. Rounding out the top for were Jennifer
Dirckx from Antioch in 3
rd
and Andee Tadiello from Oakley
in 4
th
receiving $725 and $500 respectively.
There were 4 high games rolled on Saturday and 3 on
Sunday. On Saturday during qualifying 277’s were rolled
by Kelly Lewis and Bonnie Garber both of Modesto. Jas-
mine had a 278, Joanne Gonzalez from Stockton rolled
287 and the high game of the tournament on Saturday was
bowled by Andee 290. During Sunday’s match play com-
petition Jasmine and Amanda each rolled 279 and Jennifer
bowled 289.
All the women enjoyed the competition and had a great
time. The format was great and the two game matches
gave you a second chance if you fell behind after the 1
st
game. This was the case with the match between Jennifer
and Andee. Andee was up 30 pins after the 1
st
game of
their match but Jennifer stormed back with a 289 the sec-
ond game to win the match. One of the more exciting
matches was between Andee and Andrea. Amanda was up
44 pins after their 1
st
game 279 to 235. But Andee said I’m
not done yet, firing back with a 279 of her own against
Andrea’s 232 winning the match by 3 pins 514 to 511. .
There was fierce competition both days and with the two
game matches you could never feel comfortable with a big
lead. See more next page.
