The Next Factor brings one of Storm’s most iconic ball lines into the modern era. First introduced in 2002, the X-Factor quickly became synonymous with explosive backend motion and the unmistakable skid-flip reaction that defined an entire generation of Storm performance. Now, more than twenty years later, our Innovation Team—led by CTO Hank Boomershine—has reimagined that legacy for today’s game.

This new iteration blends Storm’s high-tech heritage with the advancements bowlers expect from our strongest modern releases. Clean through the front, dynamic at the breakpoint, and relentless through the pins, the Next Factor is built for when you’re ready to open up your angles and let your ball do the talking. It’s a revival with purpose—honoring the past while pushing performance into the future.

Now that is priced right, it’s definitely a great value

The Storm Next Factor is a ball that completely changed for me once the price became more reasonable. Mine is 14 lbs drilled 45 x 5 x 25 with the box finish.

When this ball first released at around $200, I honestly thought Storm was out of their minds and I wouldn’t have even considered buying it at that price point. Now that it has settled into the $130–150 range at most retailers, I think it’s absolutely worth it.

Reaction-wise, this ball is extremely clean through the fronts and very angular downlane. It stores energy exceptionally well and really shines once transition starts to develop or the lanes begin to burn up. The backend motion is quick and continuous without feeling uncontrollable, which makes it a great option when stronger or smoother equipment starts to lose carry.

So far I’ve only used it on house conditions, but based on the shape, I think it has a lot of potential on medium and shorter sport patterns where creating angle and continuation becomes important. If you’re looking for a modern clean-and-angular motion that still carries hard, this one definitely deserves a look now that the pricing is more realistic.

For high friction lanes only!

I recently had a PSO put me into the Next Factor. He almost chose a RST Hyperdrive Pearl first, and I wish he had. The Next Factor is an interesting ball, but if you don't bowl on high friction lanes, you might be stuck with a very expensive spare ball. At his high friction alley, this thing was cool, but at my low friction home alley, this thing rolls straight and weak. I think he drilled it weak, too, which gives me little to work with at my home alley. The berry scent is extremely intense on this one. My house and car smell of candy-like berries. It gets annoying. I know that this review sounds negative. I think that this ball could be awesome for the right bowler and conditions. I imagine we'll see a lot of 5 star reviews from those individuals.
